What are the dates of your operations?
We hope to operate from Thanksgiving weekend through April. These are estimates and are completely dependent on weather conditions.
Do I need advanced reservations?
It is always smart to book in advance of your trip to Steamboat. Availability changes throughout our winter season. We cannot guarantee tours during the busiest parts of the season or during our most popular daily tour times. However, if you forgot to book ahead of time, always call us and check to see if a spot is open and we will try our best to get you scheduled.
What is the deposit and cancellation policy?
A credit card number is required to hold your reservation. A 50% cancellation fee is charged if notice is given less than 24 hours in advance of your scheduled tour time. From December 20th until January 3rd, 50% cancellation fee will charged if the tour is not canceled within 48 hours.
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes. We accept Visa and Mastercard. When you arrive, you can use a different method of payment than the one given to reserve the tour.
Do you offer group discounts?
Groups discounts are available to parties of 12 or more snowmobiles (peak holidays excluded); or visit our Specials page for current special offers.
What should I wear on my snowmobiling trip?
Dress just like you are going to spend the day on the ski slopes. Fleece, capilene, polypropylene, polyester or other synthetic materials are a good idea and make great layers to keep you warm. Gloves, goggles, a hat and waterproof outer layer are also ideal. We can provide you with warm waterproof boots and a snowsuit if you need at no additional charge. Goggle rentals are available for $5. Open face helmets are provided and required.
How many people can go on one snowmobile?
There is a maximum of 2 people per snowmobile regardless of size or weight.
Are my children old enough to go snowmobiling? Can they drive their own snowmobile?
You must be 16 years old to drive a snowmobile alone. Children 15 or younger can ride with any adult, 18 years or older. We do not recommend that children under the age of 3 go on the tours, although younger children have gone in the past and sit in front of the parent on the snowmobile. We will discuss your individual situation with you if you would like. On most tours, the children will be given an opportunity to drive in open meadows with the adult on the back of the snowmobile where the guide deems it safe. This is left to the guides discretion, considering safety and time.
Do you offer self-guided rentals?
No.
What are the pick up and return times if we use your shuttle?
Our complimentary shuttle will pick you up approximately one hour prior to your scheduled tour time. Generally, you can expect to return about one hour or less after your tour ends. These are estimates and can be affected by weather.
How far is Steamboat Snowmobile Tours?
SST is located east of town of Rabbit Ears Pass, about 12 miles from the ski resort, and a 20 minute drive. Drive times change with weather conditions.
How far is High Mountain Snowmobile Tours from town?
High Mountain is located north of town near Clark. The drive is about 35 minutes, depending on weather conditions.

What type of snowmobiles does Steamboat and High Mountain Snowmobile Tours have?
We use Polaris 550 edge tourings equipped with hand warmers.
Are gratuities included?
Gratuities are not included in the cost of the trip. We would like you to choose the appropriate tip for your professional snowmobile tour guide if you feel that you had a safe and enjoyable tour!
What else should I bring on the trip?
We encourage you to bring a camera to capture the fun and spectacular scenery. You may bring a small backpack that can be worn on your back to carry a bottle of water, any medications, inhalers, special food for diabetics or any other necessary items. Leave as many valuables as possible in your hotel or condo, if necessary you can leave car keys with office staff.
Do I have to pay for Gas and Oil?
No. These costs are included in the price of your tour.
What if I damage a snowmobile?
We will present you with an optional damage waiver before your tour. You may choose to pay a $10.00 fee which makes you responsible for only $500.00 in the event that you damage a snowmobile. The total cost of replacing a machine is $6500.00.
Are there physical requirements/restrictions for riding a snowmobile?
We do not recommend the sport of snowmobiling to anyone who is pregnant, has neck or back injuries, or is recovering from injuries.
Can I ride double?
We recommend that adults drive their own machine though you can ride double if you choose. Don't be intimidated if you're a beginner, driving your own is easier than you think. Most people on our tours are first time riders. If you do ride double there will be opportunities during the tour to switch drivers.
Will we go snowmobiling if it snows?
Yes, due to the inherent nature of winter weather and snowmobiling, all tours will proceed on cold and snowy days. Certain weather conditions may require Steamboat Snowmobile Tours to cancel your trip, in such cases all deposits are fully refundable. |
